Siemens to supply PLN with turbines of less than 20MW
Siemens Industrial Power will supply Perusahaan Listrik Negara with turbines of less than 20 megawatts of capacity for the next five years.
Nur Pamudji, PLN’s president director, said the state enterprise chose Siemens because it would use mostly local materials for the turbines, which was cheaper than imports. He wouldn’t say how much the arrangement would cost PLN.
“We have identified 15 sites that will need generators of up to 20 megawatts. It’s good that those needs will be met by Siemens so that we do not have to import,” Nur said on Friday.
Siemens has committed to meet the demand and will provide after-sales service within the next five years, he said. For the first phase, Siemens is to produce four units of steam turbines with a capacity of 7 megawatts each. The generators will be used at PLN’s power plant in Timika, Papua.
“Hopefully with this agreement, PLN can obtain turbine engines and generators that are high quality and powerful, but with a more competitive price,” Nur said.
Nur said PLN may also ask Siemens to supply turbines with less than 3 megawatts of capacity for another 200 remote sites across the country in next several years.
