Philippines' Meralco to utilize cloud computing

This is why cloud computing could be the next wave of technology convergence that Meralco will be taking on.
Meralco senior vice president Alfredo S. Panlilio said that they are still evaluating the value of such information technology-underpinned infrastructure to the power utility firm’s operations and in the aim of modernizing their service networks.
“Right now it’s still exploratory stage whether to go cloud computing. But we’re looking into it, as far as I know,” Panlilio added.
In many jurisdictions and primarily in power markets embracing the reign of smart grids, cloud computing is being adopted as necessary IT and database support for the efficient operation of their networks.
Cloud computing could prop the operations of power utilities either as IT infrastructure platform for services; storage and database or even for backend services, among others.
