BHEL's lackadaisical attitude a cause of serious concern for NTPC's Rihand STPP
In yet another disappointing turn of events for NTPC`s Rihand super thermal power plant (STPP), power equipment major BHEL has failed
to fast-track the supply of the critical steam generator (SG) package for unit 6 of the project.
8The resources, which include the equipment for ducting, fan and oil systems, have not been delivered to the project site till now, leading
the power utility to persuade BHEL to take concrete action on this front on priority basis.
8To add to its woes, the project developer has already been struggling to convince National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC)
to hasten the pace of works associated with the cooling towers (CT) which have been thrown off-track completely in the past few months due to
the contactor`s failure to augment necessary resources.
8Therefore, it is pertinent that the contractors - BHEL and NBCC - take immediate remedial measures in order to avoid any further slippages in
the commissioning of the project.
8To note, the project was conceived as a coal based super thermal power plant of 2,000 MW capacity. It is located on the southern bank of
Rihand reservoir near village Bijpur in District Sonebhadra of Uttar Pradesh and it touches the boundary of three states MP, Chhattisgarh and
Jharkhand.
8A cumulative sum of Rs 2,644 crore has already been expended on the project till January 2012 since inception. The total expenditure incurred
during this fiscal, up to January this year, stands at Rs 950 crore against the total annual plan outlay of Rs 1,298 crore.
