World’s highest wind farm rises in Tibet
Site is located 4,900 meters above the sea level.
Chinese wind energy developer Longyuan Power has installed five wind turbines in Nagqu prefecture in southwest Tibet. The company will erect 28 more wind turbines made by Guodian United Power.
Setting-up wind farms at remote areas close to the resource rich regions helps in reducing the transmission losses but also helps in the economic development of these remote areas. China is a leader in onshore wind energy technology and is pushing for the development of offshore wind farms and those in remote areas.
Longyuan’s wind energy capacity rose by 36.8% in July compared to the same period in 2012. For 2013, the company’s cumulative wind energy generation increased by 32%.
