Suzlon to launch “game changer” low-wind turbine
Indian global wind power company Suzlon Energy Ltd will soon launch its latest generation of low-wind turbines.
The S8X is a 1.5 MW next generation low-wind turbine that will harness Class III, low-wind sites. Scheduled for launch this year, S8X is designed specifically to deliver high efficiency and cost effective power generation at low wind speeds.
Suzlon said this advantage will help increase the size of the market and make wind power projects even more financially competitive.
Suzlon Group Chairman Tulsi Tanti said the company is very pleased to bring this cutting edge offering to the market.
“The S8X represents our relentless commitment to continuously improve our products and services to meet the exact needs of our customers, today and in the future. As the Indian wind market continues to grow at over 40% per annum, we believe the S8X will be a game changer in the high-growth 1.5 MW segment,” he said.
The S8X is designed with advanced rotors with diameters of 86.5 and 89 meters and a lower height of 90 meters. These specifications are supposed to improve energy yields to between 15% to 20% over the company’s current generation of low wind turbines. The S8X is designed specifically to operate in high temperatures.
The new design’s key features achieve higher reliability, improved power output and better safety.
With headquarters in Pune, Suzlon is the fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer worldwide in terms of market share and is the world's most valuable wind power company in terms of net worth.
