Expects renewables to account for 25% from the current 5.7%.
Indonesia is shifting to renewable in an effort to reduce reliance on fossil fuel and boost clean-environment sustainability. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said Indonesia is encouraging contractors to develop the sector by determining ceiling prices for each of renewable energy source.
"Now we he have made ceiling prices, the highest prices. I have signed it," he said.
He said Indonesia has a great potential to develop geothermal energy as the country has now only developed 1,300 megawatts out of the country's potential reserve of 30,000 megawatts.
Indonesia is attempting to raise oil production as aging fields and a lack of foreign investment had led to decreased output. The country quit the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in 2008.
