Mining companies going for renewable energy
Mining industry sources report a growing use of renewable energy by major mining firms worldwide.
One of the latest renewable energy projects to be commissioned is the 20.5 MW wind farm in the mining area along the Rhine River in Germany. The project is just one of several renewable energy installations announced in recent months by mining companies.
China’s Jinko Solar also recently said that it will build a solar energy array at a chromium mine in South Africa. The PV installation will supply an estimated 1.8 GWh of clean energy to the mine annually for the next 20 to 30 years and cut its reliance on diesel generators.
