Japanese garments maker enters solar power business

Generous feed-in tariff entices Gunze Ltd to venture into solar.

Gunze will invest some US$18 million its solar power business and will use the feed-in-tariff or FIT scheme to promote renewable energy.

It said it will install photovoltaic power generation panels with a capacity of 5.4 megawatts on roofs of the company’s plants and on its unused land in Hyogo, Tochigi and Fukushima prefectures.

Gunze said it intends to sell electricity to utilities beginning September 213 by using FIT, which requires utilities to buy all electricity generated by anyone via renewable energy sources at fixed prices.
