Up to a dozen nuclear reactors to come online by 2014.

China could complete from 8 to 15 nuclear reactors by the end of 2014. Several were to start in 2013 and are close to starting. By adding 10 GW of nuclear power, China should pass Russia and South Korea. China will become the world’s third largest nuclear power producer if its starts nine nuclear reactors next year. Most of the new reactors produce 1.08 GWe. One has a capacity of 1.7 GWe and two have a capacity of 1.25 GWe. China should pass France as the world’s second nuclear power producer by 2018 or 2019. Russia currently is the third largest producer of nuclear energy and could complete 1 to 4 nuclear reactors by the end of 2014. Japan is likely to only have a partial restart of about 12 nuclear reactors in 2014.
