China comes to rescue of the UK’s nuclear program
State-owned China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group could build four nuclear plants.
Energy giant Centrica withdrawal from a deal to build four news nuclear power plants the UK has forced French supplier EDF to consider China Guangdong Nuclear to build these nuclear plants.
If a deal were to push through, it would mean much of the UK’s future nuclear power supply would be controlled by a consortium owned by France and China. Building the four nuclear power stations is needed replace ageing plants and is vital to the government energy policy.
Without the new plants, the UK faces the prospect of a gap between energy demand and supply within 20 years and could face massive power blackouts.
China Guangdong Nuclear owns two nuclear plants in China with nearly 4000 MWe of installed generating capacity, it is buildingand six new nuclear power stations and intends to build four more.
