Devices will help Europeans manage power use.
Japan’s Toshiba Corporation is selling 150,000 energy-tracking units to homeowners in Europe over the next three years. It began selling the systems in France last week, which plans to introduce smart meters beginning 2014.
The units record current and cumulative power consumption and also track household carbon dioxide emissions. Toshiba wants to expand sales to the U.K. and Germany.
Toshiba said Europe is expected to see dramatic growth in penetration rates of home automation, energy management and security systems in the years to 2020.
