Australia to negotiate with energy firms on carbon tax
Australia will discuss carbon tax impelmentation with energy producers. The government is yet to work out appropriate compensation measures for industry.
Climate Change Minister Greg Combet told the Australian Associated Press that the government was considering applying an emissions intensity approach to electricity, which this would require reviewing wholesale electricity prices and considering whether to apply a different kind of emissions trading scheme to electricity.
It plans to arrive at a carbon tax price decision after negotiations with electric generators are held in the coming weeks.
