Philippines to build second wind farm

Will generate enough power to supply one million households.

The $300 million “Burgos Wind Project “will have a capacity of 87 megawatts. It will be located on Luzon Island in the province of Ilocos Norte, which is also the site of the country’s first wind farm.

The Burgos wind farm will cover about 600 hectares of land across three villages. Ilocos Norte is already the home of the 33 MW Bangui Wind Farm.

It can generate over 230 hours of electricity annually, enough to supply one million households. It is expected to surpass the capacity of Bangui when it goes online in 2014.

The Energy Development Corporation, the Philippines’ largest geothermal producer, will build the Burgos wind farm. EDC selected Vestas, the world’s largest wind turbine maker, to supply the 29 wind turbines for this project.
