GNPD strengthens performance towards a better future

It has achieved a 124% increase in Net Income After Tax in 2022.

“Before you can climb the peak of your success and enrich your future, a sobering look at how deep the valleys of your present are is a necessary task.” This is what coal-fired power plant GNPower Dinginin (GNPD) upholds as it persevered from its distinct beginnings to pave the way to its exemplary performance.

Starting from a small spark in the Philippines' energy sector, GNPD is now a major contributor to nation-building through its power plant that is both efficient and has low emissions. Since its establishment in September 2016, GNPD has reigned as the biggest coal-fired power plant in the Philippines, powering through with two (2) units with 725 MW (gross) each with supercritical boilers and turbine generators.

The plant has a flue gas desulfurisation technology, enabling the plant to operate with a high efficiency, low emission process, and with the flexibility to use different types of coal that helps GNPD provide competitive energy prices whilst looking after the environment.

As of September 2023, GNPD has supplied an equivalent of approximately 7% to the Luzon and Visayas Grid, which has the highest combined demand in the Philippines, through over 26 supply agreements. In its home province Bataan alone, GNPD supplies 22% of the province’s total power requirements.

The company is also now at 97.38% on its Equivalent Availability Factor (EAF) performance YTD as of September 2023, with units running up to 128 days continuously without deration or outage – something that is unheard of and unexpected from a new and complex facility as a supercritical plant.

The company ended 2022 flourishingly as well, reporting a 124% increase in Net Income After Tax in the December 2022 billing period, and achieving its full-year financial targets for 2023 in June.

“GNPD stands firm in helping “build the future today” by leading the charge for energy generation whilst embracing innovation. Our People, Plant, and Performance remain our utmost priority in sustaining our operations as we move forward to a better and redefined progressive future,” it said.

According to them, what sets the plant apart are the assets that need looking into: its chimney, the tallest in the Philippines standing at 240 meters high; the widest jetty in the country with an area of 530x26 metres that can simultaneously offload two Panamax vessels; and the two largest state-of-the-art coal domes in the country that can hold up to 275,000 metric tons of coal each and enclosed belt conveyors.

GNPD’s strong performance has been recognised at the Asian Power Awards, with the plant winning the Coal Power Project of the Year - Gold category. The prestigious awards programme, now in its 19th year, celebrates and honours companies and projects that have taken innovative and game-changing steps to address the effects of the climate crisis and meet the growing demand for energy.
