Torrent Power secures LoI for 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage in Maharashtra
MSEDCL gets 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage for 40 years.
Torrent Power Limited has received a letter of intent from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Limited (MSEDCL) for the procurement of 1,500 megawatts (MW) / 12,000 megawatt-hours of energy storage capacity.
Under the pumped hydro energy storage facility agreement, the company will provide the storage from its upcoming pumped hydro storage plant being set up in Raigad District, Maharashtra. The contracted capacity, to be supplied for 40 years, is capable of a scheduled discharge of eight hours (with maximum continuous five hours) per day.
MSEDCL will supply the charging energy under the agreement.
Torrent Power has identified pumped storage plant (PSP) sites across India, and plans to install up to eight gigawatts of PSP capacity. It is also looking into green hydrogen and green Ammonia production projects.
The company has 4.4 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of installed generation capacity, as well as 3.1 GWp of renewable projects under development. It plans to commission 10 GWp of renewable capacity by 2030.
