JERA to acquire Belgium’s largest offshore wind platform
Parkwind NV has a total capacity of 771 megawatts.
JERA entered an agreement with Belgium-based Virya Energy to fully acquire its offshore wind energy platform, Parkwind NV for around $1.6b (EUR1.55b).
In a joint statement, JERA and Virya said Parkwind, the largest offshore wind platform in Belgium, currently operates four offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 771 megawatts (MW).
Parkwind is currently constructing the 257MW Arcadis Ost project in Germany and has 4.5 gigawatts of projects in the pipeline globally.

“Parkwind is a highly attractive investment opportunity and we have been impressed by the Company’s strong in-house project development, project delivery and operational capabilities, management track-record over the years as well as the quality of its asset portfolio, development pipeline and joint venture partners,” said Nathalie Oosterlinck, executive officer, global head offshore wind a t JERA.
“Parkwind is highly complementary with JERA’s offshore wind strategy and ambitions, and we look to empower Parkwind to deliver on our vision and strategy. JERA has the ambition to significantly advance the expansion of renewable and low carbon energy on a global scale,” Oosterlinck added.
JERA and Virya will also look into the potential for Virya to re-invest in a minority share in Parkwind’s plant in Belgium, and discuss collaboration on future opportunities.
