Hokuriku Electric to build 1st LNG-based power output facility

Hokuriku Electric Power will build a liquefied natural gas-fueled power generation facility in Imizu, Toyama Prefecture.

This will be the company's first LNG-burning plant.

The facility will be constructed within the compound of Hokuriku Electric's existing thermal power plant in Imizu, and have a tank capable of storing 180,000 kiloliters of LNG, the utility said. The company will dismantle some of the existing coal-burning facilities as part of the project.

The facility will adopt a dual power generation system combining LNG and steam turbines to stabilize the supply of electricity, according to the company.
