Malaysian firms invest US$29m in rooftop solar and energy efficiency
The first phase of investments will contribute over 13,000 MWh green reduction.
JLand Group (JLG), Johor Corporation’s real estate firm, and Cenergi SEA Berhad, a subsidiary of UEM Group, inked a joint venture partnership to invest US$29m (RM 140m) to field rooftop solar and energy efficiency to power in Johor industrial parks.
Commercial and industrial consumers in 11,069-acre JLG industrial parks in Johor will benefit from the JV.
The two firms will undertake investments, installations, operations, and maintenance of rooftop solar and energy efficiency solutions.
The first phase of the investments is expected to contribute about 13,000 MWh green electricity generation and 8,000 tons of carbon emission reduction per year by the consumers.
The rooftop solar systems will be developed under Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Self-Consumption (SELCO) schemes, which are amongst the initiatives by the Government to achieve the target of 31% Renewable Energy (RE) in the national energy mix by 2025.
Industrial clusters, especially those involved in “heavy industries are known to account for a significant portion of global carbon dioxide emissions, thereby resulting in growing efforts for industrial players to implement emission reductions.”
